Partnering to Reduce an Airport's Emissions Footprint
The Lehigh-Northampton Airport Authority retained LeighFisher to prepare state and federal low emission grant applications that would reduce Airport-related emissions through the electrification of vehicles and equipment at Lehigh Valley International Airport. LeighFisher prepared a Pennsylvania Alternative Fuel Incentive Grant (AFIG) application for funding to assist the Authority with the purchase of electric ground support equipment (eGSE), pre-conditioned air (PCA) units for passenger loading bridges, and hybrid fleet vehicles. LeighFisher also prepared three FAA Voluntary Airport Low Emission (VALE) Program grant applications for grant funding that will complement AFIG funding for the purchase of eGSE, PCA, and hybrid vehicles. The intended results of securing AFIG and VALE funding were to (1) reduce Airport-related emissions from conventionally-fueled vehicles, aircraft, and equipment; (2) reduce diesel and jet fuel consumption; and (3) modernize its aging fleet of GSE and ground access vehicles.
