LeighFisher seeks to drive financial growth for our clients through responsible management. We address the external impacts of operating and developing an airport on the environment, community, and economy, and develop robust internal communication and change management strategies to help airport management integrate sustainability into their core business. When designed effectively, sustainability can be a source of opportunity, innovation, and enhanced organizational performance and can guide business solutions that enable management to “do well by doing good.”

Airports managers that have adopted sustainable practices have achieved substantial benefits, including reduced capital asset life-cycle costs, reduced operating costs, better customer service and satisfaction, and enhanced relationships with neighbors in the community. Additional factors that are driving airport managers to operate more sustainably include:

• Green and other environmental mandates

A commonly used definition for sustainability in the aviation industry involves a holistic approach to managing an airport so as to ensure the integrity of the economic viability, operational efficiency, natural resource conservation, and social responsibility (referred to as EONS) of the airport.

LeighFisher has worked with airport clients around the world to help understand what sustainability means to them and how to embed it throughout their organizations and businesses. In the United States, LeighFisher is participating in the Federal Aviation Administration's Sustainability Pilot Program, preparing Sustainability Management Plans for several U.S. airports. In addition, we are undertaking sustainability research projects under the Transportation Research Board's Airport Cooperative Research Program to continue the advancement of sustainability in the industry.
